Main focus
; Graduates of this master’s degree will be able to: – Obtain the necessary knowledge and skills for effective interventions in specific territories. – Asssume social responsibility in the management of territory. – Take an integrated approach in the exercise of territorial governance. – Understand the relationship between the physical environment and the social and human sphere. – Combine the temporal and spatial dimensions in the explanation of socio-spatial processes. – Understand the functioning of the local geographic space within wider geographic scales. – Master the analysis and diagnosis techniques from a territorial approach for territorial planning. – Know the theoretical models, the legal foundations and the forms of management of territorial and urban planning. – Use and apply geographic information technologies in territorial planning tasks..; – Generate environmentally, socially and economically sustainable proposals for the localization of activities and services, for the management of resources and the establishment of territorial restrictions. – Propose and evaluate development strategies. – Diagnose conflicts and territorial inequalities and prescribe strategies and actions for their correction. – Analyse, evaluate and resolve the issues involved in territorial and urban planning from a legal point of view. – Understand the legal and instrumental frameworks that govern territorial and urban planning.
Competences
Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.
