Main focus

; Graduates of this master programme will have the knowledge and skills to do the following: – Understand, analyse, and summarise general and specialised speeches in their working languages with a view to working as conference interpreters. – Understand and analyse different communicative situations (assignments) typical of conference interpreting, and carry out conceptual and terminological research in such assignments at a professional level. – Efficiently apply at a professional level the techniques of both monologic and dialogic consecutive interpreting and of simultaneous interpreting. – Effectively manage and apply the efforts involved in the process of sight translation, its different techniques, and the professional situations in which it is used. – Find and apply effective solutions for specific interpreting problems (figures, proper nouns). – Understand and analyse international relations.

Competences

Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.

A minimum level of accredited linguistic competence, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, will be required for the following student profiles: – For Spanish native speakers: a Spanish C2 level; a German, Arabic, French, or English C1 level; a B2 level in at least one of the remaining above-mentioned languages. – For Spanish non-native speakers: a German, Arabic, French, or English C2 level; a B2 level in at least one of the remaining above-mentioned languages; a Spanish C1 level.
