Main focus
; The main objective of this master’s programme is for students to acquire the knowledge, abilities, and skills needed to perform the professional duties of a high-level specialist in health and safety at work, as set out in Appendix VI of Royal Decree 39/1997 (17 January 1997), which specifies the regulations governing health and safety services. Accordingly, this programme will train students so that they can specialise in the different, non-medical fields of health and safety, such as safety at work, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and applied psychosociology. It will homogenise and create a foundation of the basic scientific knowledge of students from different branches of science, which will serve as the basis for postgraduate studies in health and safety. This programme will also promote research, innovation, and development in health and safety. Finally, it will make students aware of the importance of the techniques, models, and principles for the integration of management systems in the company by effectively retrieving and acquiring relevant ideas and information.
Competences
Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.
