Main focus

; This master’s programme will provide students with knowledge and skills that they will be able to apply to broad, multidisciplinary research contexts related to the study of musical heritage. The programme will enable students to use their problem-solving capacity to integrate knowledge and make judgments on the basis of information provided by musical sources. The acquisition of enhanced communication skills will allow them to effectively present and explain their conclusions to specialist and non-specialist audiences. Students will acquire the learning abilities that will permit them to continue studying and subsequently carry out independent research for a doctoral thesis or research work in a music-related profession. Students will be capable of identifying the different theoretical and methodological frameworks, and the lines of research from which to approach the study of musical heritage. They will also learn the different stages of a research project and the most effective ways to carry out their research. Finally, students will learn how to manage, organise, and promote musical events, while using the resources provided by the media and new technologies for access to and processing of information about music.

Competences

Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.
