Main focus

; Graduates of this master’s programme will possess an in-depth knowledge of legal and forensic psychology in various legal areas (e.g. criminal law, procedural law, civil law, penitentiary law, etc.), which should be used to analyse the psychological nature of human behaviour (apart from biological and social factors). They will also be aware of which psychological disorders people can be legally charged for. They will be able to diagnose behaviour problems that infringe laws and social norms. Likewise, they will know how to make evaluations, using psychological and neuropsychological assessment instruments and techniques. Graduates will also have a solid understanding of how to design and implement programmes of psychological intervention in different contexts and at the individual, family, and social levels. They will be able to find, interpret, and critically draft scientific texts and professional reports (e.g. expert reports), and at the same time, analyse practical cases and obtain satisfactory results.

Competences

Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.
