Main focus
; Graduates of this master’s degree will be able to: – Learn about the latest trends in criminology in order to make coherent proposals to the rest of the scientific community. – Use the most up-to-date techniques and instruments for in-depth and quality study in the field of criminology. – Understand the criminal phenomenon and its complexity. – Know the legal system and the applicable regulations in the fields of criminal law and penitentiary law that directly lead to an understanding of the criminological study involved in the criminal offence. – Know the programmes that reduce or limit mechanisms of victimising third parties.; – Assess and identify new forensic advances in criminal investigation. – Be familiar with the incidence of mental disorders and mental health problems in criminal behaviour. – Know and evaluate prevention programmes designed to tackle criminal behaviour caused by mental disorders or other mental health problems. – Read and interpret graphs and descriptive statistical tables, indicating the most relevant facts they contain. – Know and assess crime prevention programmes. – Analyse reports in order to evaluate risk situations that affect juvenile delinquency.
Competences
Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.
