Main focus

; Graduates of this master’s degree will be able to: – Show systematic understanding of the field of Greek and Latin philology and mastery of the research skills and methods related to this field. – Delve into knowledge of Greek and Latin literature through original texts. – Broaden their knowledge of the classical languages: Latin and Greek. – Know more about the techniques and methods of linguistic and literary analysis. – Study and delve into historical and cultural contexts (mythology, religion, thought, art, institutions, customs and ways of life, etc.) in which Greek and Latin texts have been produced. – Research and know the destiny and survival of literary forms and the cultural contents of Greco-Latin antiquity.; – Know the discursive procedures of rhetoric and stylistics. – Master techniques of text editing: codicology and textual criticism. – Use instruments and methods for the development of scientific work in classical philology. – Understand and apply new technologies to the field of classical philology. – Be familiar with the different variants of both Greek and Latin languages. – Know the auxiliary disciplines of classical philology. .

Competences

Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.

Access to this Master¿s degree programme is granted to holders of the following Spanish official university degrees of Licenciado or Graduado (Bachelor’s Degree), and to holders of equivalent degrees from other education systems: Grado in Classical Philology, Grado in Classical and Romance Studies, Licenciado in Classical Philology, Grado in Spanish: Linguistic and Literature Studies, Grado in Spanish: Language and Literature, Grado in Hispanic Studies, Grado in Hispanic Studies: Spanish Language and Literatures, Grado in Hispanic Philology, Grado in Spanish Language and Hispanic Literatures, Grado in Spanish Language and Literature, Grado in Hispanic Language and Literature, Grado in Romanic Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Grado in Comparative Literature, Licenciado in Hispanic Philology, Licenciado in Romance Philology, Licenciado in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature. Students coming from a degree other than Classical Philology must prove a minimum level of knowledge of Latin and Ancient Greek.
