Main focus

; Graduates of this master’s programme will be qualified to practice the profession of Architect as stipulated in the provisions of Ministerial Order EDU/2075/2010 of 29 July (BOE, 31 July 2010) and will possess the following professional competences: – They will have have an in-depth knowledge of research methods and the design of construction projects. – Graduates will also be capable of creating architectural projects that will satisfy both aesthetic and technical demands as well as user requirements, and which at the same time, comply with budgetary constraints and construction regulations. – Finally graduates will have a solid understanding of the architectural profession and its function in society. Accordingly, they will know how to design and implement projects that also take social factors into consideration.

Competences

Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.

Specific admission requirements

Students wishing to undertake this Master’s degree must demonstrate specific aptitudes acquired as a result of successfully completing a Grado (Bachelor’s Degree) in Fundamentals of Architecture, a Grado (Bachelor’s Degree) in Architecture or another degree that meets the access requirements as stipulated in Ministerial Order DU/2075/2010, of 29 July. These competencies are the following:; C1 – Working knowledge of architectural history and theory, and of related arts, technology and human sciences; C2 – Working knowledge of the Fine Arts as an influencing factor in the quality of architectural conception; C3 – Working knowledge of urbanism, urban planning and the techniques employed in the planning process; C4 – Understanding of the problems associated with structural conception, construction and engineering that may arise during building projects, and the techniques used to resolve these; C5 – Working knowledge of physical problems, the different technologies and the various functions of buildings, to ensure that the latter are comfortable and protected against the effects of weather and climate; C6 – Working knowledge of the relevant industries, organisations, standards and procedures, in order to translate projects into buildings and use building plans effectively in the planning process; C7 – Ability to understand the relationships between people and buildings, and between the latter and their environment, along with the need to relate buildings and the spaces between them to reflect human needs and scale.
