Main focus

; Graduates of this master’s programme will have an in-depth knowledge of the national and international legal framework pertaining to the intervention, rehabilitation, and protection of the architectural heritage. They will be able to identify and expertly characterise architectural typologies and construction techniques throughout History.; They will be capable of documenting the phases of analysis, interpretation, proposition, intervention, and revalorisation. Graduates will be able to apply advanced methods of erecting and restoring buildings as well as to elaborate projects on heritage research. They will also have the knowledge and skills to do the following: (i) inspect, analyse, evaluate, and document buildings. (ii) apply criteria and advanced techniques of consolidation, replacement or renovation, as well as new technologies and materials, especially for resistant structures. Finally, graduates will have a solid understanding of funding and financial sources and be capable of budgeting rehabilitation and intervention works.

Competences

Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.

Specific admission requirements

Access to this Master’s degree programme is granted to holders of a Spanish official university degree of Grado (Bachelor’s Degree) in Building Engineering; and to holders of a Grado (Bachelor’s Degree) in Building Engineering (Bridging Course), in technical fields such as Architecture, and in other Engineering degree programmes related to building and construction. Access to this Master’s degree programme is also granted to Arquitectos Técnicos (Building Engineers) with university postgraduate studies equivalent to 60 ECTS credits, and to holders of a Spanish official university degree of Licenciado in the field of Heritage.
