Main focus

; Graduates of this master’s programme will have knowledge of the main theoretical and epistemological foundations governing the interpretation of archaeological records and historical events. They will be able to identify and properly use the different sources of information (documents, bibliography, oral testimony, etc.). They will also learn the main techniques used in archaeological fieldwork, as well as the specific tools and procedures required in the management, processing, and analysis of archaeological data. This extends to the identification of the value of heritage and its potential for research, conservation, management, and dissemination. Students will acquire the skills and attitudes needed for all aspects of professional work in archaeology. The programme will provide students with insights into the general diachronic structure of the past and of the major historical periods and cultures. Accordingly, they will be capable of characterizing the material culture of each of the periods and the cultures addressed as well as their projection in the territory. Finally students will be able to write up research results in the form most commonly used in the discipline.

Competences

Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.
