Main focus

; Graduates of this master’s programme will be able to situate texts and traditions belonging to classical, medieval, and contemporary periods in the general and specific context of Judaism and/or Islam. They will know how to select the scientific theory and methodology that is most suitable for the analysis of key basic texts. They will be capable of identifying the intangible cultural heritage of Al-Andalus and/or the contemporary Arab world and its influences. Graduates will have an in-depth knowledge of the foundations of this heritage as well as of the Arabic and Hebrew cultural legacy and their expression. They will know how to identify the intercultural relations of the Jewish and Muslim communities, as reflected in their manifestations. Finally, graduates will be able to recognize the presence of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim minorities based on their relations with social majority groups.

Competences

Students that have completed the second cycle have the following competencies: – Have demonstrated knowledge and understanding that is founded upon a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often within a research context. – Can apply their acquired knowledge and understanding, and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their field of study. – Have the ability to integrate knowledge and handle complexity, and formulate judgments with incomplete or limited information, but that include reflecting on social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments. – Can communicate their conclusions, and the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously. – Have the learning skills to allow them to continue to study in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.

Specific admission requirements

Access to this Master’s degree programme is granted to holders of the following Spanish official university degrees of Licenciado or Graduado (Bachelor’s degree), and to holders of equivalent degrees from other education systems: Arabic and Islamic Studies, Modern Languages and Literatures, Arabic Philology, Hebrew Philology. Access will also be granted to graduates from the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences.; Since the academic year 2017/2018 applicants must have an accredited Arabic or Hebrew B1 level or higher, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Students with a mother tongue other than Spanish will be required an accredited Spanish B1 level or higher.
